Township Residents Develop Cancer From Alleged Exposure To Factory Chemicals

This case involves several plaintiffs who were exposed to toxic chemicals being released by a manufacturing facility. The manufacturing facility in question produced plumbing and other miscellaneous fixtures and as such, large amounts of trichloroethylene (TCE) were released into a residential community adjacent to the facility. Nearly 50 residents who have been living in the community for 10+ years now have cancer. It was alleged that these instances of cancer could be attributed to the facility’s improper waste management. An expert in industrial hygiene was sought to review documentation regarding the amount of waste the manufacturing facility released into the environment and opine on the dosage of chemicals the residents were potentially exposed to.

Question(s) For Expert Witness

1. Please describe your experience in industrial hygiene, specifically in modeling chemical toxins.

2. Please describe your experience performing dose reconstructions.

Expert Witness Response E-105405

inline imageI am a certified industrial hygienist, a certified safety professional, and a fellow of an industrial hygiene association. I have 25+ years of experience in many industrial sectors, including automobile wheel manufacturing, metal-working, and stamping. I have done many risk assessments of volatile organic compounds in soil and groundwater as part of site remediation projects. I have reviewed industrial hygiene cases for many clients and my forensic experience has been called upon by both plaintiffs and defendants. Dose reconstructions are part of the exposure assessment phase of the risk assessment process, which involves also site characterization, fate and transport, and risk characterization. The timeline for the assessment process would depend on the information that is available, and the specifics of the assignment.
