Inconsistent Effexor Dosage the Focus of Family Lawsuit

When a man with a history of depression and violence was prescribed Effexor by his sister without an official consultation, he faced a paradox of being medically unmonitored while becoming increasingly prone to severe mood shifts. The patient’s sister was a qualified optometrist, and had decided to give her brother antidepressants to avoid any the insurance costs that came with seeking an outside opinion. The patient was never explicitly warned about any potential side effects, and a review of the prescriptions from his sister reveals that his Effexor intake was not maintained consistently. Additionally, the patient’s sister had no records concerning treatment of her brother, who had been on Effexor sporadically for four years when he committed suicide after physically beating his cousin and nephew. The opinion of a psychiatrist was sought in the case to expound on the actions of the patient’s sister.
