Cargo Crane Causes Injuries in Shipyard

Industrial Safety Expert WitnessThis case takes place in Pennsylvania and involves a  female who worked as a truck driver at a major international cargo port. The truck operator stood near her truck as a load was removed from a ship by a large cargo crane. The crane operator inadvertently swung the cargo container at an unsafe height near the plaintiff’s truck, striking the plaintiff and causing a range of serious injuries. It appears that the company that was responsible for the crane’s operation was in violation of numerous OSHA and ANSI requirements. The woman eventually died from her injuries.

I have 38 years of crane experience in various capacities, and I have served as an expert on more than 20 crane/rigging cases. I have trained/instructed crane operators on best practices for the last 25 years. I have a great deal of experience with overhead cranes including the ones typically used in warehouses. I am an NCCCO Certified Overhead Crane Operator and I teach overhead crane operations, inspection, and repair. I would be well suited for this case.

Expert Witness Response E-000809

I have over 40 years in the industry and have been in charge of crane set-up and operation numerous times. I have served as an expert witness in a number of crane related incidents. The most recent was on an emergency train derailment where the use of 4 cranes on a simultaneous lift was required. I have conducted many tailgate safety talks and have trained numerous crane operators on safe practices for situations just like this. This type of crane is generally referred to as a Gantry Crane, and I have extensive experience with these cranes. I believe I am very well qualified to review this case and would be happy to move forward.
