This case involves a patent dispute relating to the design of GPS-guided, semi-autonomous combine harvesters. A leading manufacturer of farm equipment was accused of infringing on the patented guidance technology employees by one of its smaller rivals, which offered a significant advantage over the firm’s previous solution. It was alleged that the guidance solution was directly copied from the smaller rival’s system, to the extent that many lines of code in both systems were identical.
Question(s) For Expert Witness

- 2. What experience do you have working with agricultural equipment?
Expert Witness Response E-086423
I have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, and my coursework and research focused on optimal design, optimization, and control systems for aircraft and hybrid-electric systems. I have completed courses in calculus, differential equations, statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, energy conversion, and aerodynamics. My experience with agricultural equipment comes from approximately 15 years working on a large commercial farm, where I performed a lot of the maintenance on tractors, augers, small engines, and trucks. I have a lot of practical experience working on this type of equipment.
